Cloth diapers or disposable diapers
Is it better to use cloth diapers or to use disposable diapers? There are many advantages to using either one, it all depends on the individual. It’s more of ‘save the trouble and spend the money’ vs ‘ save the money and take the trouble’. Some would argue that using cheap diapers would save you some money and since it is disposable, would save you some work as well. But is it the case of saving money only?
It used to be that cloth diapers are what all mothers used, since the 1700s. These cloth diapers are not as convenient as they require cleaning and washing. Today, cloth diapers will have to compete with disposable diapers. There are new liners that are so thin that it allows mothers to easy flush the waste down the toilet.
The first disposables ever made had an inner lining made up of many layers of tissue paper. And they were bulky and expensive. The disposable diapers today have an even more absorbent inner layer that they are more convenient than before. Those who prefer cloth diapers is because disposable diapers are not very biodegradable. With the type of materials used and the amount of processing they go through, disposables diapers are very hard to disintergrate.

What about the cost of using both diapers? You have to take these questions into consideration: how many diapers am I using per month; how much am I spending on our diaper service; how much water and electricity am I using to launder the diapers? To use strictly disposables, you may spend from $80 to $100 per month; to use cloth diapers and a service, you may spend the same. But to use cloth and launder them yourself, you may spend $25 to $60 per month. It is all a matter of choice. Some parents use cloth diapers while at home and disposables when they go out.
At some point or another, you may just try out both types of diapers. After all, it will be just that few months of usage that you have to bear with until the baby is ready for potty training. You will also have to consider your baby’s skin. Sometimes your baby may be allergic to certain chemicals in the disposable diapers, some baby may be sensitive to the cloth diapers you use. So just try out a few types and judge for yourself.
